The National Rifle Association™ (NRA) was founded in New York state in 1871 as a governing body for the sport of shooting with rifles and pistols. By the early 21st century, it claimed a membership of nearly five million target shooters, hunters, gun collectors, gunsmiths, police, and other gun enthusiasts.

Today, it is the most powerful gun lobbying group in the USA.

Its powerful influence can be felt far and wide: influencing our firearm policies in directions that are neither consistent with sound reason, nor the will of the people, nor public safety.

The NRA™ gives good and responsible gun owners a bad name.

They fuel extremists to advocate for a ban on all firearms. This is unreasonable, unconstitutional, and is simply not going to happen. It does, however, work to distract from the issues of dwindling national firearm education and safety.
